“Long Flights. Fast week. Documenting Gecko’s impact onsite by highlighting the customers. ”

24 flight there. 24 hour flight back.
Leave Pittsburgh Saturday noon, arrive in Guam Monday night.
Leave Guam Friday morning, arrive in Pittsburgh Friday morning.
Time makes no sense any more but we have a clear goal:
Capture footage of robots and interviews of people at Guam’s largest fueling depot.
Swen Richter and I were the film crew, joined by two other Gecko’s- Jack and Rob who were in charge of the Toka 5 wall climbing robot (the first thing i designed when i joined gecko in 2022) and a giant DJI Drone. Another robotics company, Square Robotics, was on site too, doing in-tank inspections while the tanks were in service. In fact, the whole point of us being able to film out there at all was to highlight the terminal’s cutting edge use of technology. Doing robotic inspections while the tanks were ‘online’ meant faster turnarounds for the site and more accurate repair planning for the operations teams.
The context was noble, the weather was warm and bright, and the terminal was a delight to work with. We had incredible access to capturing the robots and crew in action, and the interview footage we got is looking great (in the editing process while writing this).
There were some challenges
- Tight schedule
- Interviewee absence
- Lost mic box
- Swen flight mishap
